The Indian Council of Legal Aid and Advice (ICLAA), one of India’s most venerable legal aid organizations established in 1972 by legal luminaries like Justice Y.V. Chandrachud and Justice P.N. Bhagwati, has announced the opening of applications for the third batch of its prestigious fellowship.
The Justice S. Rangarajan Legal Aid Fellowship is a part-time, in-person program based in New Delhi. Currently chaired by Senior Advocate Sanjay Parikh, ICLAA offers this unique opportunity specifically to equip early-career, first-generation lawyers with hands-on exposure to legal aid delivery, public interest law, and litigation strategy right at the Delhi High Court.

Eligibility Criteria
This fellowship is highly specialized and targets a specific demographic of emerging legal talent. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Background: Must be a first-generation law graduate.
- Experience: Must have 0 to 3 years of litigation experience.
- Core Interest: A strongly demonstrated interest in human rights, access to justice, and public interest litigation (PIL) is absolutely essential.
Roles & Responsibilities
Selected Fellows will be actively engaged in grassroots and appellate-level legal work:
- Providing direct legal advice and assistance to marginalized individuals approaching ICLAA.
- Conducting in-depth legal research on pressing issues of public importance.
- Liaising with grassroots organizations that currently lack adequate legal representation.
- Assisting in organizing and executing legal awareness programs in underserved communities.
Fellowship Structure & Benefits
- Time Commitment: Fellows are expected to dedicate approximately 20 hours per week in-person at the ICLAA office in Delhi.
