- Professional Experience: A minimum of 12 years of post-qualification experience across legal and/or policy sectors.
- Career Background: A proven track record built through a strategic combination of in-house corporate legal teams, law firms, and/or government or institutional roles.
- Domain Expertise: A strong foundational background in Technology Laws with a deeply demonstrated interest or direct experience in evolving artificial intelligence rules, data privacy, and digital governance frameworks.
- Core Skills: * Superb capabilities in analyzing complex frontier legislation and pending regulatory bills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, specifically the capability to distill highly technical and dense legal issues for diverse business and product teams.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven capacity to positively influence multi-layered stakeholders.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
The Associate General Counsel will serve as the premier legal anchor for OpenAI’s operations and compliance in India:
- Regulatory & Policy Strategy: Analyzing emerging Indian laws regarding AI, assessing impacts on the ecosystem, and crafting policy positions on pending legislation and international tech standards.
- Global Affairs Alignment: Partnering closely with the Global Affairs team to build robust, responsible regulatory engagement strategies with key policymakers and regulators.
- Product & Growth Support: Collaborating directly with Product Legal teams to support the responsible deployment, scalability, and localized availability of OpenAI’s suite of products and services.
- Regional Monitoring: Keeping the broader global legal team closely informed about overlapping legislative and tech developments across the wider APAC region.
