Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
The internship scheme is open to bonafide students of recognized universities/institutions within India or abroad who fulfill the following strict academic benchmarks:
- Undergraduate (UG) Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end exams of their 2nd year / 4th semester of the bachelor’s degree course AND secured not less than 85% or equivalent marks in the 12th class.
- Post-Graduate (PG) / Research Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end exams of the 1st year / 2nd semester of their PG program (or be pursuing a Ph.D.) AND secured not less than 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation.
- Recent Graduates / Waiting for Admission: Students who have appeared in their final exams or just completed their Graduation/PG and are waiting for admission to higher studies are also eligible.
- Condition: They must have secured 70%+ cumulative marks in all years/semesters till the date of application.
- Timeframe: The gap between the declaration of the final exam result and the desired start month of the internship must not exceed 6 months.
Key Rules & Engagement Tenure
- Duration: The engagement tenure shall be at least 6 weeks but must not exceed 6 months.
- Frequency Limit: A candidate can apply for an internship only once during a financial year.
- Application Window: Applications must be made 2 to 6 months in advance of the desired internship month.

How to Apply for NITI Aayog Internship 2026
The application process is strictly digital and must be completed via the official portal.
- Visit the official NITI Aayog website and navigate to the Internship Scheme portal.
- Register and carefully fill out the online application form before the 10th June 2026 deadline.
- Crucial Step: Applicants must clearly indicate their specific Area of Interest (e.g., Governance, Law, Public Policy, Economics) in the application.
- Submit the online application and save the confirmation.
- Post-Selection: If selected, applicants must produce their original mark sheets and a formal No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college/institution (in the format specified in Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification) at the time of joining. Failure to do so will result in the immediate cancellation of the candidature.
