Eligibility Criteria & Experience Requirements
All candidates applying for the Law Officer positions must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a University/Institute recognized by the Govt. of India or its regulatory bodies.
The experience and age requirements vary strictly by scale:
- Law Officer (Scale II):
- Age Limit: 22 to 30 years.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of total post-qualification experience as a practicing Advocate and/or as a Law Officer in any Scheduled Commercial Bank, PSU, State or Central Govt. department, or entity.
- Law Officer (Scale III):
- Age Limit: 25 to 35 years.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of total post-qualification experience. Out of this, at least 4 years must specifically be as a Law Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, PSU, State or Central Govt. department, or entity.
- Law Officer (Scale IV):
- Age Limit: Maximum 40 years.
- Experience: Minimum 11 years of total post-qualification experience. Out of this, at least 7 years must specifically be as a Law Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, PSU, State or Central Govt. department, or entity.
- Law Officer (Scale V):
- Age Limit: Maximum 45 years.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of total post-qualification experience. Out of this, at least 10 years must specifically be as a Law Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, PSU, State or Central Govt. department, or entity.
(Note: Age relaxations apply: 5 years for SC/ST and 1984 riot victims, 3 years for OBC, 5 years for Ex-Servicemen, and 10 years for PwBD candidates).
Selection Process
The selection methodology depends heavily on the scale applied for:
- For Specialist Officer posts up to Scale III, the online examination may contain 50 multiple-choice questions focusing on professional knowledge relevant to the post, carrying 100 marks with a duration of 60 minutes. A 25% penalty is imposed for each incorrect answer. The exam is typically followed by a Personal Interview (carrying 100 marks).
- For Scale IV and V, the bank may conduct a Group Discussion (GD), another test or assessment, and/or a Personal Interview. Preliminary screening may be conducted before calling candidates for further stages.

How to Apply for Union Bank SO (Law) 2026
Eligible law professionals must submit their applications through the official registration portal.
- Visit the official Union Bank of India website (
unionbankofindia.co.in) and navigate to the “Careers” or “Recruitment” link. - Click on the link for Union Bank Recruitment Project 2026-27 (Specialist Officers).
- Select “Click here for New Registration” and enter your basic contact details to generate a Provisional Registration Number and Password.
- Log in and meticulously fill out the application form. Ensure your name matches your ID proofs and certificates exactly; any mismatch may lead to disqualification.
- Upload the mandatory documents: a recent scanned photograph, clear signature, left thumb impression, and a handwritten declaration as specified in the official notification.
- Use the “Preview” tab to review the application, make any required changes, and then click “COMPLETE REGISTRATION”.
- Click the “Payment” tab to pay the application fee online.
- Download and print the final application form.
